Alcoholic hepatitis: Alcoholic hepatitis (AH) is an alcohol-induced liver failure syndrome that is usually seen in patients who have consumed heavy alcohol for decades (6–8). Alcoholic liver disease depends on many factors such as gender, alcohol consumption and the risk increase with the amount and duration of alcohol taken. Excessive alcohol consumption is the main cause of many diseases and socioeconomic problems such as liver damage, cancer, accidents at work or driving and deterioration of social and family relationships. For these reasons, the rapid, periodic monitoring and detection of alcohol after consumption with a non-invasive measurement has been an interesting area of research in recent years (9–16).

Alcohol use in the United States continues to be a major threat to health and wellness, impacting all demographic groups regardless of age, race, and socioeconomic status, and has been identified globally as a salient risk factor to population health (World Health Organization 2018). Esser et al. (2022) reported that 12.9% of deaths in the U.S. between 2015 and 2019 were directly (alcoholic liver disease) or indirectly (motor vehicle crashes) attributable to excessive alcohol consumption. In 2021, 51.9% of the U.S. population aged 26 and over reported consuming alcohol in the past month, while 29.2% of young people (18–25 years of age) reported binge drinking (≥ 5 drinks for males; ≥4 drinks for females) on one occasion during the past 30 days. Heavy drinking (binge drinking on ≥5 days in the past 30 days) was reported by 7.1% of those within the same age group (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration 2022).
