Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) is a condition that occurs when the use of antibiotics disrupts the natural balance of bacteria in the gut, leading to an imbalance in the diversity and abundance of bacteria. This can result in a range of complications, from mild self-limiting disease to severe diarrhea with potentially life-threatening complications such as electrolyte disturbances, dehydration, pseudomembranous colitis, toxic megacolon, and even death. Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) occurs when the antibiotic alters the micro-ecology of the intestinal microbiota, by causing an imbalance in the diversities and abundance of bacteria in the gut (Keeney et al., 2014). These alterations can affect the capacity of the normal occupant microbiota to resist the invasion of pathogenic microorganisms and their proliferation such as Clostridium difficile.

Antibiotics are the most prescribed drugs in children, which are used to treat acute infectious diseases frequently seen among them; however they are used for treatment of infections or prophylactic therapy in adults at clinical settings. Complications of AAD may range from a self-limiting disease to a severe diarrhea with serious complications, including electrolyte disturbances, dehydration, pseudomembranous colitis, toxic megacolon, and in some caseseven death (Brad et al. 2011).
