SPARCL1 (also known as Hevin and SC1) is a secreted glycoprotein that is part of the secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC) family of matricellular proteins (Sullivan et al.2006). Existing evidence shows that SPARCL1 may be associated with pathological remodelling in the settings of chronic pressure overload (St Croix et al.2000, Imoto et al.2017). Therefore, we aimed to determine the potential of SPARCL1 as a plasma biomarker of pathological myocardial remodelling and RV maladaptation in PH.
