Alcohols with more than one hydroxyl group contain two or more –OH groups in a molecule. The names of the alcohols stem from the number of these groups, for example, diols contain two –OH groups (the simplest diol is ethylene glycol: C2H4(OH)2) and triols contain three –OH groups (the simplest triol is glycerol: C3H5(OH)3). The alcohols have relatively small molecules and low boiling points; therefore they are rather useless from the point of view of anisotropic etching.

TEA is a viscous organic compound that is both a tertiary amine and a triol. A triol is a molecule with three alcohol groups. It is a colorless compound although samples may appear yellow because of impurities. TEA concentrations (by weight of the total pulp) of 0.1%, 0.3%, and 0.5% were chosen. The results of the analysis of the grinding products are shown in Table 4. With increasing sodium silicate dosage, the <0.075 mm particle content increased initially and then decreased. When the dosage was 0.3%, the yield reached a maximum of 85.23%, which is 14.05% higher than that of other GAs.
