Halimeter is an objective and quantitative method for the diagnosis of halitosis. The main shortcomings of the halimeter is its inability to detect distal volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and it’s high-cost. The chemical sensors in the halimeter can only detect sulphuric compounds. Although oral causes occupy a large percentage of the aetiology, approximately 15% of halitosis occurs due to the respiratory and alimentary tract pathologies or metabolic disorders which can only be detected by the organoleptic method [4,8].
