The term ketsu stasis refers to a state of insufficient blood circulation and blood stasis causing lesions of endothelial cells and hemorrhagic diathesis. Initiating factors of blood stasis are exogenous factors such as cold, heat, moisture, or surgery, and endogenous factors such as stress, lack of physical exercise, or constipation.

Acupuncture has the function of anticoagulation and fibrinolysis and can maintain the balance of the blood coagulation and fibrinolysis system. Accordingly, acupuncture can reduce the blood viscosity of patients with cancer and improve the high coagulation state of cancer patients, for which the acupoints activating blood circulation to dissipate blood stasis can be selected such as Sanyinjiao, Zusanli, Hegu, Taichong, Xuehai, Baihui, Yangyingquan, Dazhui, Pishu, and Geshu. Modern research shows that these acupoints can expand capillaries, increase blood flow, promote penetration of immunocompetent cells into the cancer, depress the growth of cancer cells, inhibit platelet aggregation, promote fibinolysis, and destroy the agglutination of fibrins around cancers and in foci, so as to prevent cancer cells from nidation and block the cancer from metastasis.

Based on the dialectical standard of TCM in the 2018 Chinese psoriasis diagnosis and treatment guide6, the patients were divided into blood-heat, blood-stasis, and non-blood-heat or blood-stasis syndrome groups based on the main symptoms, related symptoms, tongue coating, and pulse manifestation obtained by observing, hearing, questioning, and feeling the pulse.Blood-heat syndrome is mainly observed in the progressive stages of drip or plaque psoriasis. The primary symptoms include bright red skin lesions and increasing or rapidly expanding new rashes; secondary symptoms include perturbed and irritable deep-colored urine, red or crimson tongue, wiry, and slippery or thready pulse.Blood-stasis syndrome: mainly seen in the static stage of drip or plaque psoriasis The main symptoms were dark red skin lesions, thickened, infiltrated, and long-lasting rash, while the secondary symptoms include squamous and dry skin, darkish complexion or cyanotic lips and nails, menstruation with dark color or blood clots for women, purplish dark or ecchymosed tongue, sluggish or fine, and slow pulse.Non-blood-heat or blood-stasis syndrome is considered to be an “other” syndrome that does not meet the diagnostic criteria of the above two syndrome types.
Patient-specific hemodynamic analysis of IVCS-induced DVT

The development from IVCS to DVT is a very complex process which is affected by multiple mechanisms. In previous studies, statistical methods were used for clinical retrospective research, and failed to reflect the mechanism of DVT formation. Moreover, statistical research was susceptible to many limitations such as measurement errors, sample sizes, imaging techniques, etc. Thus, due to the small sample size, it was unable to accurately associate IVCS with DVT using the morphological statistical analysis in this research. Both iliac vein stenosis and collateral circulation changes the geometries of blood vessels, as well as the hemodynamics. Hemodynamic changes play important roles in the formation of DVT and deserves in-depth study. This study represents the first attempt to evaluate DVT potential of patients with IVCS through patient-specific hemodynamic simulations. Hemodynamics of 15 patient-specific IVCS cases were simulated with patient-specific inlet flow rates measured using ultrasound. A blood stasis model was employed to track the temporal and spatial distribution of residual blood and identify regions prone to blood stasis.

Recently, insects have been become an area of interest in the study of various treatments relating to immunomodulatory activity. A large number of insects have been used in rejuvenation therapy and proved to regulate immune response (Zhang and Xu, 1990). Tubiechong (Eupolyphaga sinensis) used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) was first recorded in Shennong’s Herbal Classic written in the Han dynasty. It is natively distributed in China and considered as safe edible insect with rich protein and essential fatty acids (Dai et al., 2014a; Ge et al., 2012). Recently, it has been used as spice and tonic for its special flavor and healthy in China, Thailand and Malaysia (Feng et al., 2009; Zhang et al., 2008). In Chinese folk and traditional medicine, it is believed to be able to promote blood circulation by reducing blood stasis (Ahn et al., 2000; Qian and Wang, 2009; Yang et al., 2011) and anti-thrombosis (Wang et al., 2012). It also has potential in treating cancer (Zhan et al., 2016; Zhang et al., 2014), leukemia, gastric carcinoma and hepatocarcinoma. Some reports showed that Tubiechong (E. sinensis) is one of the main components in Dahuang zhechong Pill, it can alleviate carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced hepatic fibrosis by down-regulating p38 and extracellular-regulated protein kinases (ERK) phosphorylation (Cai et al., 2010). But no researches related to the immunomodulatory effect of ESL in CTX-induced immunosuppressed mice have been reported.
