Machine tending means loading or unloading a particular machine with its sub parts or materials. Human resources are meant for performing the task of machine tending. Few machines in the industrial sector should be tended by human employees who keep the raw parts into the main machine. Once the machine completes its task, the worker needs to remove the raw parts from the machine. Qualified employees are required by the industries in order to perform this process of machine tending. But due to the lack of such well-qualified employees, industries are moving to robotic machine tending to replace the shortage of workers.

ISO 21919 is an official document that specifies standards for machine tending. Machine tending is defined in the document as ‘the automatic loading or unloading of one or more machines by using a machine tending device’. ISO 21919 mainly covers not only issues of machine control but also the interface of the controller and safety. ISO 21919 describes the terms and communication specifications required to specify a standard. It also shows a number of scenarios that can occur in machine tending systems, demonstrating that the standard of machine tending can be specified via ISO 21,919.
