Contactless payment systems do not require physical contact between a user’s device or card and a merchant’s payment terminal during checkout; however, it does require the merchant to have a contactless point-of-sale (POS) terminal. There are different methods to implement contactless payment, such as using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology or near-field communication (NFC). To enable contactless payments, radio frequency identification (RFID) devices can be embedded in a variety of forms, such as smart cards, smart phones, key fobs, and watches (Lacmanović et al., 2010; Ozturk, 2016). Furthermore, a wireless technology called near-field communication (NFC) could be integrated into the devices to enable communication with a POS terminal (Baumgartner et al., 2018; Ok et al., 2010; Wadii et al., 2017).
