Troll A platform

To "troll a platform" refers to the Troll A platform, which is a concrete gravity-base structure located in the North Sea off Norway. The platform is the tallest of its kind and contains a significant amount of high-strength concrete, reinforcing steel, and prestressing steel. Equinor, formerly Statoil, has launched a program to extend the platform's lifespan. The Troll platform is expected to be in operation for up to 70 years. This lifetime, considered very long for an offshore production platform, has induced the Troll Project to place great emphasis on operational requirements and long-term cost effective solutions.

Petronius is the world’s tallest offshore structure, a compliant tower (Figure 33), and Bullwinkle is the tallest fixed platform (Figure 34). The Troll A platform is the world’s tallest concrete gravity-base structure (Figure 35).
