The brick base course raises up above the foundation to a height 0.7–1.0 m, from the finish floor level. Fired brick surrounds also the arch door opening on the patio and on the streets, with a width ranging from 0.42 to 0.98 m, through the full depth of the wall. The first story wall has an overall height of 5.2 m from finish floor level. External walls are the thickest, ranging from 0.80 to 1.25 m, whereas the interior walls are the thinnest, ranging from 0.60 to 0.80 m.

External air supply to the sun spaces is provided via patio doors and a single first-floor window, as illustrated in Figure 6. External trickle vents are also installed at site CS-B. Movement of air from the sunspace into the dwelling is also via trickle vents above the internal doors in site CS-B, but at site CS-A ventilation of the sunspaces is reliant solely on occupant behaviour in the form of opening doors and/or windows.
