For this, the authors synthesized a novel organic compound, 3,4-diaminobenzene-thiol (DABT), which comprises two distinct parts, namely, an o-phenylenediamine group for specifically recognizing NO to generate benzotriazole, and a thiol group for immobilizing the DABT molecule onto trisoctahedral Au nanostructures (hereafter abbreviated as Au/DABT).
Determination of metals in marine sediments
Published in T. R. Crompton, Determination of Metals and Anions in Soils, Sediments and Sludges, 2020
One millilitre of sediment solution was allowed to stand with 0.1 mL of the 1% 4-nitro-o-phenylenediamine hydrochloride solution in a 10 mL glass vial for 2 h. One millilitre of toluene was added. The vial was capped and shaken vigorously for 2 min. One microlitre of the toluene layer was injected into the gas chromatograph.
m-Aminophenol

The hydrogenation of other aromatic diamines was also examined to determine the generality of the reaction. Under the standard conditions of 60°C and a 2:1 acetic acid: MPD ratio, o-phenylenediamine and p-phenylenediamine yielded only starting material.

However, the catalytic reduction of nitroarenes into their respective amines is considered a suitable, efficient, eco-friendly, and cost-effective method [23,24]. In the industries like pharmaceuticals, dyes, polymers, agriculture, and surfactants, the reduction product of O-phenylenediamine(o-PDA) is highly reusable as an intermediate reagent. O-PDA is found to be less hazardous and the most valuable industrial reagent which is used as raw material for synthesizing various products, on the other hand, 2-NA is a highly stable pollutant present in an aqueous and biological system like other dyes [25]. Thus the major advantage of the treatment of pollutants through catalytic reduction is the formation of less hazardous species which are more biodegradable as compared to their precursors [26–31]. Therefore, the fabrication of cost-effective, stable, and efficient heterogeneous catalysts for the reduction of nitroaromatic compounds into valuable products is highly desirable (Figure 1).
