The pyrometallurgical roasting of sulfide ores and concentrates, which commonly incorporates considerable amount of sulfosalts, is one of the most important pre-treatments in the production of metals and chemicals from various raw materials. Most sulfide ores, concentrates, and tails in general tend to oxidize in air, and these reactions are exothermic (Dai 2016). Pyrometallurgical oxidation roasting of sulfide ores involve gas-solid exothermic reactions, and the process valorizes ore concentrates for the subsequent metallurgical processing. In addition to the oxidation roasting that includes dead and partial roasting decomposition and sulfating roasting are also widely used pyrometallurgical pre-treatment processes.
