In summary, CNS depressant use is not compatible with aircraft operations. The one exception may be the use of short-acting sedative-hypnotics for occasional treatment of acute insomnia not due to a more serious underlying psychiatric or medical disorder.

Current evidence-based treatments for jetlag aim to reacclimatise the circadian rhythm to the new time zone. The primary approach is to strategically time travellers’ exposure to zeitgebers to modulate the circadian rhythm (Bin, Postnova, and Cistulli 2019; Toh 2008). Non-pharmacological interventions include light exposure, sleep scheduling, timing of meals, and timing of physical activity (Bin, Postnova, and Cistulli 2019). Pharmacological interventions include the use of sedatives to promote sleep, chronobiotic agents for enhancing circadian rhythm adaptation, or the use of caffeine and other wake-promoting agents to reduce daytime impairment (Arendt 2018). Although jetlag interventions are based on circadian physiology, their effectiveness and transferability into the real world had been limited as these strategies rely on individuals to make considerable behavioural changes (Vosko, Colwell, and Avidan 2010).

Considering the obtained results, it can be suggested that the presence of sedative and anxiolytic activity in the compounds allows positioning them for potential use in the treatment of anxiety disorders, anxiety-neurotic states (emotional lability, memory impairments, decreased concentration and attention), restlessness, fear, obsessive states, as well as for the prevention of stress-related conditions.
