Pyrazines and isomeric dihydropyrazines can be synthesized from simple 2-arylazirines in the presence of group VI metal hexacarbonyls. The azirine containing a substituent (Schiff base, aldehyde, α,β-unsaturated ester) at the saturated carbon of the three-membered ring participates in intramolecular cycloaddition to result in high yields of five-membered ring heterocycles. The stereochemistry about the double bond proves to be an important factor affecting the reaction course in the case of ketovinylazirines (Scheme 47) [102–103].

Pyrazine and its derivatives present variable activities depending on the presence of electron pairs on heterogeneous atoms. Furthermore, pyrazines have wide usage in food as flavoring agents, as they are cost-effective and nontoxic materials. There are some studies on the anti-corrosion effect of pyrazine and its derivatives for various chemical compositions of steel and different corrosive solutions.[27–29] Although, some studies have been carried out by using pyrazine and its derivatives, more extensive studies containing both experimental and theoretical investigations with together can contribute to the literature where pyrazines used as corrosion inhibitors in corrosive environment.
