A yes or no response to the presence of fungi can be used as prescreening of fungal infection, such as to determine infection on skin. Currently culture-based and potassium hydroxide–based tests are in use. Microbiological culture techniques can take days to months. The gold technique to test human fungal pathogens is the potassium hydroxide test. Even though the test is fast and accurate, it requires fluorescence spectroscopy run by a specialist (3).

The microbiological culture media including Nutrient broth, Nutrient agar, Mueller Hinton agar (MHA) were procured from Himedia, Mumbai, India. Other chemicals such as Zinc acetate dihydrate, Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), Potassium Bromide (KBr) (FTIR grade), Sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Crystal violet, Phosphate buffered saline (PBS) and De-ionized water were purchased from Sigma Aldrich, New Delhi, India. The antibiotic sensitivity disks as Erythromycin, Streptomycin and Ciprofloxacin were obtained from Himedia, Mumbai, India.
