Case 3: Five different pesticides were found in a 70-year-old white female with no significant past medical history and no history of alcohol or tobacco use noted a rapid growth of a left parotid mass without pain or facial paralysis 2 months prior to evaluation. Family history was positive for cancer. Physical examination revealed a left parotid mass measuring 3 cm, which was rubbery and nontender. Full facial function was present and no neck nodes were palable. A left lateral parotidectomy with facial nerve dissection was performed. Pathology consultation on the parotid specimen was obtained from Dr. John Batsakis of M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital. Final consultation revealed a carcinosarcoma of the parotid gland with osteosarcoma as the sarcomatous element and squamous carcinoma as the carcinoma element. This was staged T20M0. Adipose tissue was obtained from the abdomen following completion of radiation therapy. Residues detected in the specimen included heptachlor epoxide, trans-nonachlor, DDE, DDT, and mirex.

Final pathology results for the specimens studied included uterine sarcoma, adenocarcinoma, carcinosarcoma, and high-grade serous carcinoma. Out of the 7 pathology-confirmed malignant specimens, 3 had no myometrial invasion identified. Out of the 4 specimens with invasion reported, the degree of myometrial invasion ranged from < 1 mm to 10 mm.
