A typical PEA outdoor substation supplying overhead distribution lines is shown on the left of Figure 2. The cross section of the ground grid conductor in the substation is 95 mm2. It is buried 0.5 m below ground level, while the ground rods inside the substation are 6 m long with a diameter of 16 mm. All the ground rods are directly connected to the main ground grid by exothermic welding. Each take-off structure is 15 m high. The OHGW of the substation has a cross section of 35 mm2 with a diameter of 7.5 mm and is connected to the top of each take-off structure.
