Requirements were copied directly from the specifications of the Leopard 2 main battle tanks. Because some requirements in the Leopard 2 main battle tanks were incorrectly formulated, the errors were inherited in the requirement set that the Spanish contractor employed. One of the requirements demanded the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of the powerpack (a subsystem consisting of the engine, transmission and final drives) to exceed a certain number of kilometers. Although the requirement derived from a legitimate need, its formulation had several flaws.
