Quantifying the nationwide HVAC energy savings in large hotels: the role of occupant-centric controls

It is noted that some hotels, especially some mid-priced full-service hotels, tend to use the packaged terminal air conditioner (PTAC) for heating and cooling of the guestrooms. Such a system usually takes in a fixed amount of outdoor air and has no damper to flexibly adjust the amount of outdoor air supply. The HVAC controls and available occupant-centric controls for such a system would be very different compared with the VAV system and DOAS system, and will not be discussed in this study.
