Muscle soreness upon palpation of the upper arm of the elbow joint was quantified using a visual analogue scale with a 100-mm line indicating “no pain” at the left end and “extremely sore” at the right end (Tanabe et al., 2019). During this measurement, the participants were instructed to sit on a chair with the arm relaxed, and one skilled investigator palpated the biceps brachii. The same investigator performed all tests, and the pressure of palpation was maintained as consistent as possible on all occasions. The intra-rater reliability of VAS assessed by ICC was 0.95.
