International container design regulations and ISO standards: are they fit for purpose?

The floor of a container must be strong enough to withstand the static and dynamic load forces of cargo as well as the dynamic load forces caused by stuffing and unstuffing. ISO 668 details the sub-base floor structure for containers giving specifications for the number and layout of transverse beam members and the load transfer areas for use when the container is transported by a vehicle. No such detail is given within the CSC, although it does identify these components as being structurally sensitive to the strength of a container.
