Vasja Roblek, Ivan Erenda, Maja Mesko
Development of the industry is going towards smart factories whose indispensable part is smart internal logistics. Currently, internal logistics processes are ineffective. In smart factories, process management will take place in real-time and consequently with maximum precision and efficiency. The goal is to increase the efficiency of business operations. Automation of internal logistics is undoubtedly an area of automation with great potential and the effect of improving efficiency. The presented solution has many advantages. It is optimal in terms of effect and investment; flexible, open and interconnected with other management systems and production automation. It is necessary to emphasise that changes in the direction of smart factories are already happening and will continue even faster in the future. The fourth industrial revolution is going on imperceptibly and already demonstrates apparent effects on the most advanced companies and these companies build competitive advantage for future operations. Therefore, decisions and solutions in the field of automation of logistics in companies must be quick and comprehensive.

Published in Maureen Connelly Jones, William J. Rothwell, Evaluating Organization Development, 2017
The classic balanced scorecard components are (1) financial, (2) customer, (3) business operations, and (4) organizational learning and growth. The financial sector examines how well the organization establishes, tracks, and achieves its financial goals. The customer sector examines how well the organization seeks to achieve customer satisfaction and grow market share. The business operations sector examines how well the organization efficiently and effectively uses resources to source and deliver products or services. Finally, the learning and growth sector examines how well the organization establishes and maintains an effective corporate culture to support human resources.

Companies need to monitor the effectiveness and efficiency of their operations to gain competitiveness. While effectiveness means the ability to do the right things, efficiency refers to doing things right according to Andersson and Bellgran (2015). Many authors such as Neely, Gregory, and Platts (2000), Turner, Bititci, and Nudurupati (2005), and Kumar et al. (2006) agree that to achieve this goal of competitiveness, an appropriate performance measurement system must be in place. Our proposed definition of an appropriate measurement system – based on a synthesis of this work – is that it is ‘a dynamic and integrated set of measures for measuring and evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of business operations that can be used as a basis for making appropriate decisions to improve the competitiveness of enterprises’.
