Subsequent to modification works in 1974-75 and later by barge dumping operations at locations of newly developed sinkholes as well as due to natural siltation, the performance of upstream blanket generally improved. There was gradual reduction in the piezometric pressures/potentials with decreased collected seepage at downstream toe of MED. At full reservoir level, the total collected seepage decreased from about 8.5 cubic metre per second in 1974 to about 0.4 cubic metre per second in 1985 and nil in 1988 (Fig. 8).
