If the upper tester receives a busy tone (the line L?BusyTone), that execution of the test case is inconclusive (the test verdict is INCON). Alternately, if the upper tester receives a ringing tone (the line L?RingTone), the upper tester checks if the connection is successfully established (the line L?LineConnected), e.g., by sending DTMF tones from the lower to the upper tester. If the upper tester receives the LineConnected signal, that run of the test case is definitely successful and we reach the test verdict PASS. In both cases, the upper tester ends the test case by sending the hook-on signal to IUT (the line L!HookOn).

Thus, the proposed system concept (a smartphone-based modulation system cooperated with the ISO-type alarm) theoretically meets with all user requirements, based on the following criterias accordingly:The smartphone-based modulation concept maintained/kept the original ISO standards, avoiding difficulties in achieving new universal agreement;The control center prevents false alarm by monitoring emergency situation inside building through sensors, increasing warning credibility;The control center sends out customized warning information to occupants, by considering their personal needs, for better receiving and comprehending warning information, increasing warning efficiency;The smartphone supports the ISO alarm with multimodality, by enabling various technical possibilities (ringtone, vibration, SMS) in reaching receivers through different information channels;The smartphone serves as a personal communication device that benefits user relevance (Wogalter et al. 1994), concurring with receiver’s attitudes and beliefs;The building monitoring and smartphone are two developed technologies with available accessibility, that can be easily implemented in buildings;
