Holography
Published in Toyohiko Yatagai, Fourier Theory in Optics and Optical Information Processing, 2022
The complex amplitude with the amplitude A(x,y) and the phase ϕ(x,y) can be recorded and reconstructed by using a technique of holography was described in Section 7.1. Since the complex amplitude of an object should be interfered with a reference wave to record a hologram, the object should exist in the real world. It is very difficult to make a filter with complex characteristics by the holographic technique. The computer-generated hologram (CGH) can be synthesized by only computational procedures. This means that the wavefront to be recorded needs not always to exist in the real world. The technique of computer-generated holography is widely used to reconstruct non-existing objects, to synthesize spatial filters with complex characteristics, to generate wavefronts with ideal shapes which are difficult to be fabricated by conventional methods, and so on.
Digital Image Formation and Computational Imaging

Apparently, the major problem in computer-generated holography is not the computational complexity but rather the problem of converting digital data into a physical hologram. To perform this task, computer-controlled spatial light modulators (SLM) are needed.
Applying multi-focus filtering plane in double-step Fresnel diffraction method for enhanced holographic projection region
Published in Journal of Information Display, 2023
Computer-generated holography has been expected to be one of the most promising technologies for expressing dynamic three-dimensional images due to its advantages of reproducing optical wavefront by controlling the amplitude and phase of light. While augmented reality (AR) systems utilized by conventional 2D micro-display make users feel uncomfortable and dizzy due to vergence-accommodation conflict (VAC), holographic displays can solve the problem by providing complete depth cues [1–3], so various studies have been conducted to employ the holography in the AR fields [4–7].
