All pertinent nutrition label facts for food item(s) photographed were entered into an Excel spreadsheet, as were package size, serving size, serving units, and servings per package. All macronutrients were entered in grams, and micronutrients were entered as the percentage of daily value, except for sodium which was entered in milligrams. Nutrient information from primary sources was either available on the photo or accessed through an online source such as the food manufacturing company. SmartLabel was also considered a primary source, as the organization partners with certain food manufacturers to make nutrition content available online.18 When primary data sources were unavailable, secondary sources were used. Nutritionix was used for secondary data as it has verified nutrition facts on over 750,000 food items.19
