Cognitive development

Cognitive development refers to the process of growth and maturation of the brain's cognitive abilities, including information processing, auditory and visual perception, conceptual understanding, attention, memory, logic and reasoning, language acquisition, learning, creativity, and other related aspects. The theory of cognitive development proposed by Piaget and Inhelder (1969) suggests that the concrete operational stage (children aged 7–11 years old) of development occurs when the cognitive abilities of children undergo the most major changes. They begin to acquire concrete knowledge, an ability to classify, and rudimentary logical reasoning skills (although they have yet to understand abstract concepts).
