The theory of cognitive development proposed by Piaget and Inhelder (1969) suggests that the concrete operational stage (children aged 7–11 years old) of development occurs when the cognitive abilities of children undergo the most major changes. They begin to acquire concrete knowledge, an ability to classify, and rudimentary logical reasoning skills (although they have yet to understand abstract concepts).
