Overview:
Publishing research in peer-reviewed journals is the primary form of trusted scholarly dissemination. Publishers earn this trust by implementing publishing ethics standards, policies and processes which ensures that content published can be trusted, the research can be verified and built upon, and researchers receive credit for their work. This course will provide insights into the “publishing ethics system” and how publishers deal with issues to ensure the integrity of the scholarly record.
What participants will learn:
An overview of publishing ethics and the responsibilities of authorship. Participants will also work through case examples of common types of issues which can arise (e.g. authorship disputes, plagiarism etc), and will receive tips on key steps prospective authors can take to ensure they avoid these pitfalls.
About the Trainer
Dr Sabina Alam is the Director of Publishing Ethics and Integrity at Taylor and Francis Group. After a research career in neuroscience, Sabina moved into scientific publishing in 2008, joining Taylor and Francis Group in 2018, where she leads the Publishing Ethics and Integrity team on providing expert advice and support to journals on ethical, research integrity and policy matters with the aim of minimising risk and ensuring compliance to the highest publication ethics standards.
