Psychoanalytic infant observation is a way of finding out about the experiences of babies and their worlds. Personal feelings encountered in the observation setting provide important information about the emotional experiences of the participants. Institutional observation similarly accords importance to the observer's feelings at the time, and thus differs from ethnographic research. In this chapter, I have presented and discussed my observations of special care infants and their environment.
