At present, no such reversibility was demonstrated. Oxidation of the protein with peroxide, hexacyanoferrate(III), or iridate led to the irreversible destruction of the Cu-thiolate chromophore as shown by CD, EPR, and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry. With the latter method intermediate oxidation products of the thiolate-sulfur, including RS-SR, RSO-2, and RSO-3, species generated from RS-, were detected. Upon potentiometric titration with iridate and hexacyanoferrate(III) Cu(II) EPR-signals developed at various stages of oxidation.108

The chemical composition of studied solution was analyzed immediately before the experiment of inhalation toxicity study. Determination of active chlorine content has been carried using standard iodometric titration in acetic acid (Williams 1979). Determination of sodium chlorate content has been carried out using the specially developed technique of potentiometric titration (Girenko et al. 2019). The determined minimum of chlorate ions is 2 mg/L with an error of 5%. The expanded uncertainty of chlorate determination did not exceed 0.6 mg/L. Determination of chlorite ions content has been carried out via the standard method of iodometric titration in the medium of 2 М H2SO4 (Williams 1979). The absence of chlorite ions in the test solution is because of the rapid reaction of its oxidation to chlorate ion in an excess of hypochlorite ion (Siddiqui 1996).

Suspensions of the live and autoclaved bacterial cells in liquid MH medium (100 ml, OD620 = 0.059, bacterial density = 0.4 ± 0.08 g of dry weight dm−3) were mixed vigorously. Their pH was set at 3 using 1 M HCl to limit sample dilution. Potentiometric titration was performed using a TitraLab TIM 965 Titration Workstation (Radiometer Analytical, Lyon, France) in a pH range of 3–9 (0.1 M NaOH) at 20°C. This was carried out in three biological replicates and the mean result was calculated. The surface electrical charge, Q (mol g−1), was obtained using the following equation: Q = C(V1−V2)/m, where C (mol dm−3) is the concentration of the NaOH solution added, V1 is the volume of NaOH solution added to the bacterial suspension, V2 is the volume of NaOH solution needed to obtain the same pH in a blank sample (MH medium) without the bacterial cells, and m (g) is the dry weight of the cells in suspension.

Prior to the PSMA/lipid complexation, a critical pKa value for each PSMA type must be examined. For this, the potentiometric titration curves were constructed for both 1000 P and 2000 P types, as presented in Figure 4. The half-equivalent point volume was extrapolated to obtain the value of pKa, reflecting the acid content or the acid strength of the material [25]. As noticed in Figure 4, the 2000 P sample shows the corresponding pKa value of around 4.8, while that of the 1000 P sample is around 4.3. Led by these results, the lipid complexation with 1000 P and 2000 P was performed at pH 4.3 and pH 4.8, respectively.
