With the intent to address correction of magnesium electrolyte imbalance with a properly formulated and well absorbed prescription product, Pharmalyte Solutions has developed an extended-release (ER) caplet formulation of 10 mEq strength of magnesium L-lactate dihydrate (MLD10, equivalent to 121.5âmg magnesium per caplet) which has been shown to be well absorbed after oral administration in this trial. The objectives of this study were to evaluate and establish the absolute bioavailability of 20 mEq magnesium lactate ER caplets with respect to approximately 20 mEq IV magnesium sulfate and to assess the effect of food on the bioavailability of magnesium lactate ER caplets.
