Mud paste is applied on the face and allowed to dry for 30 minutes. This is helpful in improving the complexion of the skin and removing pimples and open skin pores which in turn facilitate elimination. Like his colleagues, Binns mainly named and treated symptoms rather than specific diseases. This is not surprising, since according to humoral theory it was quite possible for collections of symptoms to alter, becoming more or less serious depending upon the individual sufferer’s ‘complexion’. Thus, although healers identified specific diseases as well as symptoms, the symptoms were the main targets for treatment. This therapeutic approach and the way it was described presents obvious problems for the historian. For purposes of convenience, the symptoms Binns treated will be discussed within three major groups: conditions resulting from recent injuries, long-standing disorders requiring repair work, and the collections of symptoms produced by venereal disease.

We also reported a slightly increased risk of NMSC associated with half a serving of total citrus per day, with no significant results in other serving categories. This result was not observed in the aforementioned previously published results (11, 12), and, to our knowledge, there is no biologically plausible rationale for this finding. This result was still observed after creating and controlling for a composite phenotypic susceptibility variable to reduce multicollinearity (data not shown). Similarly, we also report a greater risk of NMSC associated with >0-half a serving of total citrus among those with darker (olive) skin. As this result is in direct contradiction to well-established, consistent literature on pigmentation and NMSC risk (23–25), we used data for skin complexion, hair color, and tanning ability to create a single variable to represent phenotypic susceptibility to NMSC and tested it for interaction. As no evidence of interaction existed for this composite variable (p = 0.11), we suggest that the significant interaction associated with skin color, and results of our subgroup analyses, are likely due to chance or residual confounding.

Ageing is generally characterized by the cumulative damage of body molecules and the piecemeal collapse of body maintenance and repair (Golubev et al. 2018). Intrinsic (chronological ageing) and extrinsic (pollution and photoaging in the environment) contributors are linked with skin ageing. In the period of chronological ageing, the skin displays a decrease in cell proliferation capacity, which leads to cellular senescence and modifies the biosynthetic activity of the skin cells for the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid and overproduction of extracellular matrix degrading enzymes. As a result of intrinsic ageing, the skin may become pale and dry with a loss of elasticity leading to the appearance of fine wrinkles. Occasionally, the skin might also become blemished with a rugged texture. Extrinsic ageing results from environmental factors containing infrared and radiation exposure, ultraviolet (UV) light, and others (Fussell and Kelly 2020). Other factors such as air pollution, smoking, poor or stressful diet may also contribute to ageing. Approximately 80% of facial skin ageing is attributed to sun exposure. Extrinsic ageing leads to the rough skin surface, coarse wrinkling, sallow complexion with mottled pigmentation, and marked loss of skin elasticity (McCabe et al. 2020; Low et al. 2021). Both extrinsic and intrinsic contributors account for the excess deterioration of the dermal extracellular matrix and loss of skin barrier function (Strnadova et al. 2019).
Development of a combination therapy with silanols complexed with boron citrate and ablative-fractional laser for treatment of wrinkles and stretch marks

The test procedure was carried out on two groups of participants. Group A included people with a defect of facial and neck wrinkles (33 patients, including 28 women and 5 men). The patients were randomly divided into three subgroups (IA, IIA, IIIA) of eleven people each. In Subgroup IA, the analysis revealed in 9 people complexion with elastotic and aftersun wrinkles, the complexion with expressive and mimic wrinkles in one person, the complexion with atrophic wrinkles in one person. In Subgroup IIA the analysis revealed a complexion with elastotic and aftersun wrinkles in 7 patients, a complexion with expression and mimic wrinkles in 2 subjects, and a skin with atrophic wrinkles in 2 people. In Subgroup IIIA, the analysis revealed the complexion with elastotic and aftersun wrinkles in 5 people, in 5 people the complexion with atrophic wrinkles, in one person the complexion with gravitational wrinkles.
