During the Operation, Support, and Modification Phase, systems engineering is responsible for periodic reevaluation of the system and for controlling changes in the system. The original system requirements must have allowed for logistic support of the system. Modifications to the design necessitate a review of the entire set of systems engineering documents. A large modification will require the entire design process to be redone. Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) fully supports a system in operation. This includes the maintenance, training, and service needed to satisfy the customers.
A systems approach to life cycle risk prediction for complex engineering projects
Published in Cogent Engineering, 2018
To provide quantitative data for this research, the respondents were asked to provide a value or metric for each of the generic risks by a score out of 10. The score of 1 representing no perceived risk and 10 representing extreme risk. Sixteen staff from the Engineering and Project Management teams were asked to participate in the survey. The respondents included design engineers, project managers, draftsmen, cost analysts and ILS (integrated logistics support) engineers. A return rate of 87.5%, i.e. 14 questionnaires, was recorded.

First is the Fault Prognosis (FP) as we all know, reliable fault prediction or remaining useful life (RUL) calculation will significantly lessen repair costs and reduce the risk of injuries, while improving system test and maintenance efficiency. Data-driven fault prognostics on the basis of sensor or historical test data is a crucial prediction method for complex systems [21]. Unwanted repairs and breakdown costs can be reduced with fault prognosis. Second, in response to events that degrade aircraft performance, the Path Planner (PP) architecture dynamically changes its model to calculate feasible flight plans [18]. When overall thrust loss occurs due to fuel mismanagement, this real-time segmented trajectory planning algorithm can be used. This paradigm can also be applied to other strange occurrences. A preparation agent has been created to pick and execute effective investigation and reversionary action plans, which are helpful in effectively evaluating and minimising faults [19]. When faced with multiple failure situations, it is capable of picking the required action plans. Third, Internet Enabled Predictive Maintenance (IPM) which assists in determining the state of in-service equipment and predicting when maintenance should be done [20]. This would make it easier for the repair staff to complete maintenance assignments efficiently. Fourth, a Fault Diagnosis (FD) agent will assist in the diagnosis of the plane's problem. Each diagnosis agent contains the algorithms of a fault diagnosis approach, which can be accessed by users and experts through their interface agents [22]. It ensures that the servicing is done correctly. The fault diagnosis can be more efficient and accurate according to the agent-based fault diagnosis support system. This would make repairs easier for the ground staff. Fifth, the Maintenance Decision Support Tool (MDS) is a computer-based information system that supports decision making at the administration, processes, and planning levels of an enterprise. Inside the integrated logistics support (ILS), data mining strategies and intelligent agents may be used to build an expert system with a feedback framework. This idea will become an intelligent decision support system (IDSS), which extrapolates predictions and alerts [23,24]. This decision-making aid will assist the ground crew in maintenance. With the help of all these governing variables of multiagent technology sudden equipment failure can be avoided.
