Stand-alone power system

A stand-alone power system (SAPS) is an independent electricity generating system that is not connected to the electric grid. It can consist of a small or micro wind turbine and solar array that charges batteries in remote locations or small villages, pumps water for irrigation, and powers mills for grinding grain. SAPS is primarily used in remote areas where utility lines are uneconomical to install due to terrain, right-of-way difficulties, or environmental concerns. The stand-alone power system is used primarily in remote areas where utility lines are uneconomical to install due to the terrain, right-of-way difficulties, or environmental concerns. Building new transmission lines is expensive even without these constraints. A 230-kV line costs more than $1 million per mile. A stand-alone wind system could be more economical for remote villages that are farther than a couple of miles from the nearest transmission line.

Thus, the total power delivered to the load can be computed by the following equation, Based on the load profile and availability of solar power, the factor varies accordingly. Therefore, the bio-power generation system can be operated depending on solar PV. The battery storage charging and discharging factor, respectively, depends on both biogas and solar power system. Therefore, battery operation is fully dependent on the power sources integrated with the DC bus. Thus, a stand-alone power system can be operated with fully DC renewable resources that can feed power to the local loads. The full iteration of the system is demonstrated in Figure 7.
