Density logging

Density logging is a type of well logging technique that uses gamma-gamma radiation to measure the bulk density of formations surrounding the borehole. It is also known as gamma-gamma logging. The density of mudstone or shale can be directly obtained from density logging (Den). After the analysis on crude oil in the tested wellblock and conversion of them to the underground state of high temperature and high pressure, the oil density is estimated at 0.8 g/mL in the studied area; through well logging response and the related geological analysis, the initial porosity (Φ0) of mudstone or shale that close to the surface was supposed to be 62%, then the porosity at depth H is calculated using the following equation:

Analysis of common logging data in the study: Natural gamma logging (GR) and natural potential logging (SP) can reflect the amount of shale in the formation. The GR value generally increases with the increase of the shale content, and the SP value can be obtained by calculating the shale content by establishing a corresponding calculation model. Acoustic time difference logging (AC) and resistivity logging (R25) are often used to divide different formations depending on the conductivity of the rock. Density Logging (DEN) and Compensated Neutron Logging (CNL) can be used to distinguish the density of rocks. In production, lithology is often divided through superposition or cross-sectional mapping.
