In sample NL 1058-45.6”, svanbergite [SrAl3(PO4)(SO4)(OH)6], a strontium aluminium phosphate sulfate (APS), was identified using the SEM. The svanbergite is typically intimately intergrown with the chalcocite (Figure 8g). APS minerals have only previously been recognised in advanced argillic alteration zones of porphyry copper deposits and are interpreted to be the product of apatite destruction (Stoffregen & Alpers, 1987).
