A foot switch is a switch that is controlled by a foot pedal. This type of switch is used for applications in which a machine operator has to use both hands during the operation of the machine. The foot switch provides an additional control position for the operation of a machine, for times when the hands cannot be used.

In 1992, Carr and Lucero [9] invented a portable page-turning device that was attached to a music stand. It employs a foot-pedal connected to the device via a cable. Users place the paper-based music sheets on the stand and attach the device to the top of music sheets. Then, when the performer wants to turn a page, they press the pedal. The device is designed to turn the page accurately regardless of the music sheets’ thickness or paper type.
