The project consists in building a comprehensive system for teaching Lean Manufacturing methods and tools on the basis of modern technologies: barcode scanners, Vorne 800XL and LEGO Mindstorms EV3 boards, but first of all on the basis of an innovative production system and approach to didactic processes. The main task carried out within the project implementation is to design and build an automated production line based on structures made of LEGO Mindstorms blocks, based on technical, process and organizational solutions used in real enterprises, used to simulate the production process and its improvement in accordance with the principles of Lean Manufacturing. The resulting structures will be used to conduct workshops based on them, during which participants will learn and use in practice knowledge about production optimization. These elements of the production line will allow for the practical application of methods and tools derived from the concept of Lean Manufacturing and for controlling the effectiveness of their use depending on various variables of the production process. The use of robots (made of LEGO Mindstorms blocks) and various sensors providing data from the production process in real time will allow to simulate the real conditions in production companies, where employees work every day not only with people, but also with machines. And with the Vorne 800XL, you can set the necessary performance indicators for your production line in real time, both in terms of productivity and financial performance. Traditional simulation games, based on subsequent attempts to improve the production process, are usually limited to the following steps: warehouse organisation - segregation of materials and components, designation of specific locations to improve visual identification,improvement of the system of production stands according to the course of the production process,determination of storage bays for finished semi-finished products for individual workstations,training of employees in operations performed on particular positions,development of templates, templates and instructions facilitating work on activities requiring precision,checking the times of each operation and trying to balance their load in order to eliminate bottlenecks that limit the group’s performance.

Students in both groups had some prior knowledge of coding from the fifth-grade curriculum with Code.org programme. However, they were introduced to robots for the first time in this research. During the research, they performed coding activities using Scratch and Lego Mindstorms education sets. Table 1 summarises the demographics of the students.
