Microbiology laboratories use two types of balances: Top loading balance—Sensitivity should be at least 0.1 g at a load of 150 g.Analytical balance—Sensitivity should be 0.0001 g under a load of 10 g. Analytical balance used for weighing small quantities (under 2 g) of material. Single-pan rapid-weigh balances are most convenient.

In the following discussion, the analytical balance is defined as an instrument with capacity ranging from 1 g to a few kilograms and with a precision of at least one part in 105 of maximum capacity. Many modern electronic balances have a precision of one part in 107 at full capacity, and the accuracy is usually comparable.

As for the water absorption (Mt, %) of BCEA, three kinds of BCEA with different curing times were prepared, namely S1 (25 °C/24 h+60 °C/24 h), S2 (25 °C/24 h+60 °C/48 h) and S3 (25 °C/24 h+60 °C/72 h). According to ASTM D570-10, the samples were films of 50 mm×50 mm×1.0 mm. The samples were cleaned with deionised water on the surface and dried at 60 °C for 24 h. Afterwards, the samples were immersed in deionised water, and the mass change was recorded at 25 °C every 60 s. For each measurement of mass change, the water on the surface of the samples was required to be absorbed, and the upper and lower sides of the sample were treated with nitrogen. Finally, an analytical balance (accuracy: 0.01 mg) was quickly used to weigh the sample. The final result was calculated as the average of the three parallel tests.

There are two types of backfilling materials, lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) of which the compositions are shown in Table 3 and 200 mesh bentonite from Keerjian town, Toksun County, Turpan City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, of which the compositions are shown in Table 4. The compacted dry density of bentonite, ρd is 1.5∼1.6 g/cm3 calculated from Equation (1), where ρ is the measured density of the bentonite compact sample, g/cm3; and w is the measured water content of the bentonite compact sample, %, which is 26–28%.Before the experiments, the samples should be free of oil and water by acetone and alcohol separately. Meanwhile, the weight was given by electronic analytical balance whose accuracy is 0.1 mg. In the process of accelerated corrosion experiments, the samples were extracted and tested at different times. Samples with corrosion products were dried and weighed again by electronic analytical balance. With the help of the gravimetric method, the corrosion rate of sample was calculated. In addition, the microscopic observation was conducted by LEO-1450 SEM, and the phases of corrosion products were analysed through Siemens D5000 X-ray diffraction.

The full concentration range of [C2mim][SCN] + CH3OH binary system with different mole fractions were prepared by mass on analytical balance. The accuracy of analytical balance was ± 0.0001 g. The mole fractions of IL in the mixture were from 0 to 1 (xIL = 0.0000, 0.0988, 0.1966, 0.3005, 0.3859, 0.5006, 0.5972, 0.6996, 0.8040, 0.8997, and 1.0000). The entire operation was carried out in a dry argon atmosphere to avoid changes of the binary system composition.
