Optimization of cooling load in the combined vapour absorption–vapour compression refrigeration cycle using exergy analysis

The combined VAR–VCR system is successfully commissioned at one of the branches of Gokul Dairy, Kolhaur (India), for milk chilling operation. Earlier milk was chilled from ambient temperature (30–35°C) to 4°C by the VCR system using 1°C chilled water. Presently, the chilled water is generated by the combined VAR–VCR system. The cooling load on the VAR cycle is about 74% and remaining on the VCR of the combined system (the design is as per Table 1). Reciprocating compressor (300 kW cooling capacity) manufactured by Kirloskar Pneumatic Co. Ltd. is used in the VCR section. The VAR system was manufactured as per specification mentioned in Table 1 by Voltas Ltd. Table 2 illustrates a comparison of performance data for the combined VAR–VCR system with the prototype.
