Emerging Technologies and Associated Terminologies
Published in Amalendu Chatterjee, Autonomous and Integrated Parking and Transportation Services, 2019
A kiosk, in general, is an electronic device or a computer with either a touch screen or a keyboard located in some convenient or high-traffic location as a customer interface to the specific application. The purpose of kiosks is to provide information, render services, or rent or sell goods to people. Most of the modern kiosks will have Internet connections. Examples of typical kiosks are: bank ATMs for cash, electric utility for payment, information systems, airport traveler check-in, hotel lobby check-out, shopping mall for direction, hospital lobby for patients, parking ticket payment, etc. An interactive kiosk is a specialized computer terminal with specific hardware and software combinations for functionalities providing communication, commerce, entertainment, or education. The kiosk design for RWPTTP operation will have similar functionalities in addition to specific transportation functions.
Self-service technologies (SSTs) streamlining consumer experience in the fashion retail stores: The role of perceived interactivity
Published in Journal of Global Fashion Marketing, 2018
Given the importance of digitalized environment, retailers are demanding retail technologies for enhancing shopping experiences in their stores. Perhaps, technology-based service is a new paradigm for fashion retailers who mainly stress personal service (i.e. face-to-face interaction) in selling highly touchable merchandises at the physical stores. Although there are risks of return on investment for implementing innovative technologies and uncertainty of consumer attraction toward the brick-and-mortar retailers, use of digital technology in the store environment is rapidly increased over the last few years (Charlton, 2013). In fact, many fashion retailers (e.g. Nordstrom, Zara, Topshop, etc.) attempt to utilize various interactive SSTs such as digital signage, touch screen look books, interactive kiosks (i.e. virtual fitting room and magic interactive mirror) and self-checking kiosk in order to enhance in-store shopping experience in a proactive way (“13 retail,” 2015; Digital Signage Summit, 2017; Kim & Sung, 2016) which transforms the way consumers interact with products in traditional retail stores.
