An important aspect of optimizing a web site involves monitoring traffic to the site. Web traffic refers to the number of visitors to your web site and the number of pages visited. Oftentimes, it is measured to determine the popularity of a web site and its individual pages and elements. By including a bit of programming code on each page of the web site, the webmaster can learn a lot about the visitors to the site. This helps the webmaster and other marketing professionals understand which elements of a web site are considered valuable to its visitors and which are not.

Yet web traffic is not limited to external website sources. Within the website, traffic is also distributed among different pages. Returning to the physical store analogy, the distribution of the physical store is usually designed to ensure that customers go all the way through the store, making sure that they pass close to the products which the store is particularly keen to sell. The same thing happens on a website. In addition to visiting the website, there are products or pages that have higher conversion rates than others; that is, their sales rate is much higher than the rest of the pages of the same domain. It is therefore important that all the traffic which reaches the website is redistributed and ends up taking the visitor at some point to those pages that have a higher conversion rate.
Robust Web Data Extraction Based on Weighted Path-layer Similarity

The correct sets of goal nodes (ground truth) for two datasets are constructed. The ground truth of dataset1 was published by Qiang Hao et al.27 The correct goal nodes of dataset2 were screened by the volunteers. They first selected popular websites (22 websites of 8 categories) from the web traffic data ranking website: www.alexa.com. Then the crawler developers selected the Target based on the real extraction task experience in their work. For example, room score (booking.com), product price(amazon.co.jp), first product record content, next page link (ebay.com), video name, next video link (youtube.com) and etc. College students selected the target nodes based on their interests. For example, GDP value (worldbank.org), first reference, note (wikipedia.org). For each page of dataset1, 3˜5 target nodes are specified, and for each target node of a webpage, we can get a goal node in its variant page. In total, we have for all extracted 31,400 target nodes from the dataset1. For dataset2, we extracted 90 target nodes in total. There are 1˜3 target nodes specified from different positions on a page.
Performance Impacts of Web-Enabled Retail Services: An Empirical Study

The awareness features, which are designed to direct potential customers to the retailer’s website during the early stage of mCSLC, were found to influence web traffic positively by increasing the number of unique visitors. This validates the importance of marketing and promotional efforts a company undertakes to direct traffic to its website as website traffic is found to have a dominant impact on sales in the research model. Additionally, awareness features also had a direct and positive impact on the overall sales. These findings confirm that heavy usage of electronic media such as personalized emails, promotional messages, e-coupons, and more recently, referrals via social network friends and mobile apps are effective in enhancing online retailer performance. We argue that the awareness efforts are especially critical in the B2C e-commerce environment where consumer switching costs are low and market reach is broad.
