Service-Oriented Computing
Published in Vivek Kale, Digital Transformation of Enterprise Architecture, 2019
An SOA can be thought of as an approach to building IT systems in which business services are the key organizing principle to align IT systems with the needs of the business. Any business that can implement an IT infrastructure that allows it to change more rapidly than its competitors has an advantage over them. The use of an SOA for integration, business process management, and multichannel access allows any enterprise to create a more strategic environment, one that more closely aligns with the operational characteristics of the business. Earlier approaches to building IT systems resulted in systems that were tied to the features and functions of a particular environment technology (such as CORBA, J2EE, and COM/DCOM) since they employed environment-specific characteristics like procedure or object or message orientation to provide solutions to business problems. The way in which services are developed aligns them better with the needs of the business than was the case with previous generations of technology. What is new in the concept of SOA is the clear separation of the service interface from execution technology, enabling choice of the best execution environment for any job and tying all of these executional agents together using a consistent architectural approach.

Software Cyborgs of Tomorrow
Published in Rocky Dr. Termanini, The Nano Age of Digital Immunity Infrastructure Fundamentals and Applications, 2018
Cloud service providers (CSP) are companies that offer network services, infrastructure, and business applications in the cloud. Cloud services are hosted in a data center that can be accessed by companies or individuals using network connectivity. Soft Cyborg leaders want to be invisible and will try to hide their existence on invisible clouds. They will definitely not be customers of Amazon, IBM, or Microsoft. They will develop their own cloud infrastructure. Cloud infrastructure is a collection of server hardware, networking gear, storage resources, and software that is needed to build applications that can be accessed by the cloud. In a cloud infrastructure, applications can be accessed remotely using networking services such as wide area networks (WANs), telecom services, and the Internet.
Sustainability Balanced Scorecard Approach to Internet of Things Enabled Logistics Systems
Published in Engineering Management Journal, 2022
The conceptual framework for designing the architecture and infrastructure of an IoT-enabled logistics system is developed based on the applications of IoT to warehouse, inventory, and transportation operations. According to Pearlson et al. (2016. p. 125), “an IT architecture provides a blueprint for translating business strategy into a plan for Information Systems. An IT infrastructure is everything that supports the flow and processing of information in an organization, including hardware, software, data, and network components.” This concept is used for designing the IoT-enabled logistics system. Moreover, a sustainability BSC with six categories of metrics is considered to provide an integrated, proactive, and dynamic view in designing the infrastructure. Exhibit 3 shows the conceptual framework.
A Semantic Model for Enterprise Digital Transformation Analysis
Published in Journal of Computer Information Systems, 2023
An IT infrastructure is a set of shared computing resources that supports a technological foundation for information system applications.30–32 According to the survey of this study, IT infrastructure of enterprise digital transformation is the most important aspect that describes the current state and the future state of the enterprise system. Hardware, software, network, and security are the major components IT infrastructure. Figure 5 shows the component structure of IT infrastructure.

Data centers can be seen as a composition of information technology (IT) systems and a support infrastructure (Shah et al. 2008). They are equipped with data storages, network routers, power supplies, redundant data communications connections, and environmental controls such as air conditioners and fire suppression systems, and often multi-stage high-level security access systems (Patankar 2010).
