When different oneM2M instances (CSE or AE) are deployed in containers as services, each service will be assigned a virtual Internet Protocol Address (VIP). When a query is sent to the fog node, the Docker Engine on each fog node has an internal Domain Name System (DNS) server to resolve the incoming query and forward the query to the target container. Moreover, we use the HAProxy [13] as our external load balancer because, in our scenario, we use HTTP as the communication protocol between the IoT devices and the fog nodes. HAProxy supports TCP/HTTP load balancing, which is suitable for balancing HTTP requests.

OpenAM uses OpenDJ as an identity repository and the latter is provisioned through OpenIDM. All the authentication requests to and responses from OpenAM may pass through OpenIG (as depicted in Figure 5). OpenIG is not a mandatory component but it simplifies secure access to remote cloud services for legacy production systems and applications without having to modify them to support state-of-practice authentication and authorization protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect and SAML 2.0. For large scale deployments with many IoT or CPS devices, we use HAProxy,2 a high performance TCP/HTTP load-balancing proxy server.
