App icon: App is short for application, which refers to a software program for any hardware platform. App icons111 are used to depict an application in a phone or computer. By tapping or clicking the icon, it would open up the corresponding program or website. An app icon is basically a pictogram, which is a part of graphical user interface, linked to an application to help a user navigate through their mobile devices, such as smartphones (Iconion n.d). The app icon might be the users first impression of the brand. Therefore, when developing an app icon one of the prime factors is to bring out the most distinctive from the brand assets it should represent, so that the app is easy to recognise and helps build brand awareness; it could be an abbreviation or first letter of the brand name, a simplified and stylised illustration derived from the logo, symbol or another identity element. Development of the icon is best done through an iterative process to arrive at a simple shape that best represent the brand. The icon should be tested against different wallpapers, and by the use of A/B testing (2.9.2 A/B testing). For the design process avector-based drawing program, such as Adobe Illustrator, is most suitable, while for the final output, using a raster graphics editor program, such as Adobe Photoshop is needed. Choosing the right resolution is crucial since that would impact the display quality of the icon. Redesign of known app icons shows a tendency towards constant simplification (Wetzler, 2021): Google (2020), Instagram (2016), and Amazone (2021)112

The process of making a map usually involves obtaining an existing or creating a new CAD file for the floor. This CAD file is then converted to an SVG file using Adobe Illustrator or another conversion utility. The map file is named according to the floor-naming convention described below. This SVG file is then copied to an appropriate application directory. Creating a naming convention involves preparing a list of building names and floor numbers. A floor name might be composed of the network name, building name, and floor number. A floor name might have the following example naming convention (without any spaces): [network_name]-[building_name]-floor-[floor_number]. The chosen naming convention should result in unique names for every floor.

One of the most widely used tools for noninteractive simulations is Macromedia Director™. The designer defines graphical objects called “sprites,” and defines paths along which to animate them. The succession of events, such as when sprites appear and disappear, is determined with a time line. Sprites are usually created with drawing tools, such as Adobe Illustrator or Deneba Canvas, painting tools, such as Adobe Photoshop, or even scanned images. Director is a very powerful tool and experienced developers use it quickly to create sophisticated interactive simulations. (However, it is still faster to create noninteractive simulations.) Other similar tools exist on the market such as Adobe AfterEffects and Macromedia Flash (Figure 47.10).
