IoE: An Innovative Technology for Future Enhancement
Published in Lavanya Sharma, Mukesh Carpenter, Computer Vision and Internet of Things, 2022
The interconnection between computing devices, machines, objects, and human beings is brought together to facilitate the transfer of data and communication by a network ID called IoT. The primary point in IoT is called “things,” which are sensors, software, and allied technology to facilitate communication. IoT spans from mundane household objects to large or highly complex industrial objects. IoT has widely evolved because of multidisciplinary fields such as machine learning, sensors, and embedded system. IoT products have opened the field of smart homes and smart cities. Home automation and smart homes are IoT device-implemented systems which can provide automatic lighting, security management, room temperature automation, etc. A smart home is an interface that controls and uses devices in a general household for controlling different aspects of livelihood leading to a better lifestyle. An example can be taken from Homekit produced by Apple Inc., which controls different applications like Siri. Similarly, IoT has paved the way for almost every aspect such as agriculture, healthcare, industry, and transportation. A smart city means a city where technology is induced in various aspects such as monitoring of traffic, collection of garbage, lighting of street lamps, and providing helplines. Telensa is one of the major agencies, which pivots the development of smart cities [2,17–19].

Over the cloud network, they may be controlled using a FOSS or a mobile app. There are several FOSS choices for home automation. The most prominent are OpenHAB, Jeedom, and Calaos. Some other examples include Home Assistant, Domoticz, OpenMotics, LinuxMCE, PiDome, MisterHouse, and Smarthomatic. From a “lovely home” to a “smart home,” there's a lot to consider. By opting for the right choice of hardware and software, it is possible to make home automation more secure and intelligent. Home automation can also help you save money on your electric bill by lowering your total power consumption. Now, for ease of understanding, we will discuss outdoor and indoor security and safety aspects separately [6].
Futuristic Approach to Energy in Smart Cities

Smart living refers to the practice of making a wise use about energy and technology. Home automation is one example of such technology which can make your home smart by effective utilization of energy. Smart homes provide comfort, security, and most efficient use of energy, using Internet of Things technologies [10]. A huge growth can be anticipated in the market of home automation [11]. Large number of sensor and AI based new appliances are entering in the market on daily basis. Some of these appliances like smart home stereos, smart thermostats, light bulbs, and electric vehicle home chargers have become very popular.
Analyzing the impact of energy consumption on environmental excellence: A dominating role of economic globalization in North African countries

Table 6, shows the long-run and short-run relationship between EF, GDP, EU, URB, and EG. The findings stated that energy use (EU) has a significant positive relationship with EF, implying that an increase in energy consumption in North African countries damages the ecological quality. These upshots align with Rehman and Rashid’s investigation (Rehman and Rashid 2017). Thus, the study suggested that North Africa should adopt green energy and strictly control the waste of energy to minimize the environmental impacts of energy consumption. Moreover, the latest environmental technologies should be adopted to advance the effectiveness of the energy sector. The study of Shehzad et al. (2020) stated that smart electric devices and home automation could save energy consumption and energy waste. However, the study revealed that one unit increase in EU diminishes the EF by −1.00653 units in the short run. The study of Nathaniel et al. (2019) documented that energy consumption has a negative association with EF. Moreover, Zeraibi, Balsalobre-Lorente, and Shehzad (2020) publicized an adverse collision of energy use with CO2 emanation.

Total energy utilized throughout a year is lowered in strategic conservation. In strategic conservation, behavioral modifications are needed to conserve energy. Home automation is suggested as an energy-saving technique for residential users [188]. A load demand reduction of 1–5 kW for summer and 1–2 kW for winter is observed using home automation in the southern United States. Reference [189] proposes a conservation voltage reduction for energy savings. While using the conservation voltage reduction approach in power networks for peak demand shaving and energy consumption reduction, the voltage on feeders that run from substations could be reduced. As a result, it saves a lot of energy for both utilities and consumers.

Home automation is automating the control of devices and appliances in the home environment to increase the comfort and convenience in their usage. A home automation system should be low-cost, efficient and portable which can be controlled remotely. In addition, the system should be sustainable for safe community, power consumption and well-being of people.
