During physical activity, interactions between different physiological systems are required. The cardiovascular system is continuously stressed during dynamic and progressive physical activity to favor increased oxygen transport to the muscular system. Oxygen consumption enlarges due to increases cardiac output (heart rate × systolic output) and arteriovenous oxygen difference, as muscles require more oxygen to sustain muscular contractions. Therefore, the chronotropic response to incremental exercise plays an essential role in cardiovascular adaptations: at maximum exercise intensity, HR can increase 2.5–3 times the values at rest (Bar-Or, 1983; Pieles & Stuart, 2020).
