Our purpose is to foster human progress through knowledge. For us, corporate responsibility means delivering on this core purpose while taking account of our social, economic, and environmental impact. We are members of the Business for Societal Impact (B4SI) Network. This is a forum that helps organizations measure and manage their social impact.

We aim to reduce inequalities and improve access to knowledge. We do this through the content we publish, the policies we adopt, and the partnerships we build. Our programs and commitments are designed to reduce our environmental footprint, contribute to the communities we serve, and provide a great place to work.

Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to access our resources.

We strive to ensure that our products, platforms, and websites are accessible to all. We continually improve the quality and accessibility of our content. We do this to help all of our customers reach their full potential.

We are guided by US and UK legislation, and W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). We also partner with BookShare in the US, Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) in the UK, and the AccessText Network in the US and Canada.

Community involvement

We make meaningful contributions to the communities we serve.

We aim to promote literacy and access to books, journals, and learning materials. We want to do this while building connections with our local communities. Our community initiatives are global, national, and local. They include fundraising, charity partnerships, equipment donations, and volunteering.

We encourage all our staff to get involved with a charity or local community of their choice through our volunteer programs. We offer four days’ paid leave per year for this.

Development initiatives

We support scholars in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Global challenges need global research. Access to good quality research is essential for education, innovation, economic growth, and climate action. That is why we have a wide range of programs that support librarians, authors, and researchers in LMICs. These focus on access to research, help with getting published, and training.

Taylor & Francis is a founding member of Publishers for Development (PfD). It is also the only international commercial academic publisher with an editorial team in Africa.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion

We strive to create a more equal workplace.

We believe that diversity is a strength. We bring together a diverse range of people, communities, and opinions. This benefits our customers, communities, and colleagues.

We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Through our policies and staff networks we work hard to promote a more equitable organization for all. We have made good progress, but we know that there is still more to do. It is important to us that our colleagues around the world can contribute, be heard, and be inspired.

Publishing ethics

We work hard to ensure the work we publish can be trusted.

At Taylor & Francis, we take publishing ethics and research integrity very seriously. Common issues we come across include data integrity, authorship, and plagiarism. As the use of technology grows we also need tools to tackle paper mills, and policies around the use of artificial intelligence (AI).

Our Publishing Ethics and Research Integrity team works hard to identify and tackle unethical behavior. We have a robust peer-review process, and provide clear ethics guidance for editors, authors, and reviewers. We also run training for researchers.

Sustainability

We are committed to sustainable publishing.

Print publishing can have a big environmental footprint. We are taking steps to reduce ours. We want our publishing to have a positive impact on society – not a negative one on the planet.

Our approach is to embed sustainability into everything we do. To do this we focus on the areas where we can make the biggest impact. These are our operations, the content and knowledge we provide, and the communities in which we work. We are working to decarbonize our business and build a sustainable supply chain. We also participate in industry-wide sustainability initiatives, since this is an issue that affects us all.

Corporate social responsibility and sustainable development

Our corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts form part of our wider commitment to sustainability. They are informed by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We want to create a workplace where everyone feels valued. A place where the work they produce makes a positive contribution to society. And we want to do this while minimizing our impact on the planet.
