Disability insurance systems are built to secure a living for those unable to work due to an illness or an impairment. Most applications for disability pension are accepted. However, a significant part is rejected as pension insurance institutions evaluate the evidence for disability entitling one to a pension to be lacking [1]. Instead of permanent disability pensions, current policies in many countries increasingly prioritize rehabilitation and making use of the remaining work ability among those with reduced working capacity. This is in line with the aims of promoting longer working lives and meeting the cost-containment objectives in both national social security and pension funding systems.
