That tinnitus does occur in the absence of disease clearly implies that pathological causes are not absolutely necessary for its occurrence and when such do occur, they may only really be correlations and imply that a proximate pathological cause may not be necessary and an adaptive or evolutionary mismatch hypothesis is very probable.
