Finally, some research suggests that people mispredict how using Facebook will make them feel. For example, one study found that participants predicted they would feel better after using Facebook for 20 minutes. In fact, they felt worse after doing so (Sagioglou & Greitemeyer, 2014). This misprediction might be captured by an evolutionary mismatch between how our brains evolved to seek social connections, and the negative consequences they yield on social media (see van Vugt et al., this volume, for a discussion about the concept of evolutionary mismatches).

That tinnitus does occur in the absence of disease clearly implies that pathological causes are not absolutely necessary for its occurrence and when such do occur, they may only really be correlations and imply that a proximate pathological cause may not be necessary and an adaptive or evolutionary mismatch hypothesis is very probable.
